Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Station, Parking Lot, Master Plan and Site Access Improvements – Spotsylvania County, VA
Role: Deputy PM & Senior Engineer
Technology: Bentley GEOPAK with OpenRoads Technology
Summary
This project involved the design and master planning of a 1,500-space park-and-ride commuter lot for the new Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station on a 45.9-acre parcel in Spotsylvania County. The layout encompassed approximately 30 acres and required intersection improvements along Route 17, upgrades to Crossroads Parkway, and integration of utilities and drainage systems—all while coordinating with VRE and multiple stakeholders.
This facility plays a critical role in meeting the growing transportation needs of Northern Virginia commuters traveling to Washington, D.C. By providing convenient access to VRE rail service, the project supports regional mobility, reduces highway congestion, and offers sustainable alternatives for long-distance travel.
