Pennsylvania Department of Transportation – Digital Delivery Pilot Projects
Overview
In 2023, JMT secured its first of four PennDOT Digital Delivery Pilot Projects—a major milestone in advancing model-based design and IFC deliverables for transportation infrastructure. These wins were possible because of a strategic innovation push I led through the Design Center of Excellence (DCOE).
My Role in Making This Happen
- Vision & Advocacy: I championed digital delivery as a core differentiator for JMT, aligning with PennDOT’s innovation goals and positioning the firm as a leader in BIM-driven workflows.
- Building Expertise: Under my leadership, the DCOE developed a network of Bentley Subject Matter Experts and Premier Scholars in OpenRoads Designer and OpenBridge Designer—creating internal capabilities that set us apart.
- Strategic Partnerships: I leveraged JMT’s E365 relationship with Bentley, enabling access to exclusive training, success planning, and the Premier Scholar Accreditation Program.
- Upskilling the Firm: We achieved OpenRoads and OpenBridge Premier Scholar accreditations, ensuring JMT had the talent and best practices to deliver complex digital projects.
Impact
- Positioned JMT as a trusted partner for PennDOT’s digital transformation.
- Secured four pilot projects across multiple districts, including:
- 1 bridge project using IFC deliverables (awarded for construction)
- 2 roadway design pilots (ongoing)
- 1 drainage project currently in construction
- Established JMT’s reputation for innovation, technical excellence, and collaboration.
What This Demonstrates
I didn’t just support these projects—I created the conditions for success by driving a firm-wide shift toward digital delivery, building expertise, and forging strategic partnerships. This initiative reflects my ability to anticipate industry trends, mobilize talent, and deliver measurable business impact.
